Grade Level Highlights

Book Projects

During the year 4th graders complete 3 book reports that capture their creativity. In the fall students select a fiction book to read and then are asked to create a cereal box based on their book. In the winter students will be reading a biography of their choice. In the spring students select a topic of their choice to research and complete an ABC book that showcases all the things they have learned about their topic.

Research Projects

In 4th grade students do research using book and online resources. Topics include: National Parks, personal heritage, the United States and more.

Hands on Experiences

Students experience many things with the help of parents and the local community. In the fall we visit Volo Bog to better understand the unique ecosystem that exists there.

Grade Level Celebrations

Students look forward to our uniquely 4th grade celebrations. After researching their heritage, we gather for a Heritage Feast in November. We invite our principal and superintendent to read to our students during our annual Read-A-Thon in December. As an extension of our poetry unit, Parents are invited for a Parent Appreciation event in May.

Differentiated Instruction

With such a wide range of learners and ability levels, we do our best to meet the individual needs of each child. We work closely with the reading department to identify students who may need additional reading interventions to reach their goals. Extra time is also set-aside during math class to work with students who need additional time and practice to master math skills and concepts that have been introduced in class.
